This study explores the representation of linguo-pragmatic elements that reflect national mentality in the translation of literary texts, with a particular focus on Abdulla Qodiriy’s novel O‘tkan kunlar. The purpose of the research is to identify how speech acts, cultural references, and context-dependent expressions are transferred into English and to what extent their pragmatic functions are preserved. The analysis is based on selected passages from the novel and their English translations by Mark Reese and Carol Ermakova. The research draws on theoretical insights from translation scholars such as E. Nida, S. Bassnett, and local Uzbek researchers who emphasize the importance of dynamic equivalence, cultural adaptation, and compensation techniques.

Phraseological units such as proverbs and somatic idioms built on “heart” function as intertexts that encode cultural wisdom and embodied metaphor, yet their translation across languages risks loss of connotative depth and pragmatic force. This study investigates translation strategies and intertextual retention in English-to-Russian, Uzbek, Spanish, and Arabic transfers, aiming to model equivalence patterns in culturally dense expressions. A mixed-methods approach combined parallel corpus compilation (50 proverbs, 120 heart units), multi-tier annotation in ELAN, cognitive metaphor mapping via correspondence analysis, and a novel Intertextual Density Index (IDI). Results revealed proverbs favor equivalence (42%) to preserve canonical allusions, while heart idioms rely on paraphrase (61%) due to metaphorical divergence (e.g., EMOTION vs. CHARACTER in Arabic/Uzbek). Native-speaker ratings confirmed functional success of adaptive strategies. The findings propose a predictive hierarchy of translation methods and validate IDI as a replicable metric. This work advances cognitive and contrastive phraseology, offering translators and educators a unified framework for managing intertextual complexity in cross-cultural mediation.

Phrasal verbs, integral to English yet challenging due to their idiomaticity and syntactic variability, pose significant difficulties for Uzbek learners. This study proposes a lexicographic framework, tested through sample entries, for an English-Uzbek phrasal verbs dictionary, featuring alphabetically organized entries with stress patterns, phonetic transcriptions, grammatical indicators, and contextual examples. Drawing from Oxford, Longman, and R. Courtney’s dictionaries, the design categorizes phrasal verbs by transitivity, includes synonyms, antonyms, and usage notes, and aims to enhance comprehension and practical use. The approach offers a tailored resource for Uzbek speakers, with potential for broader application in bilingual lexicography.

This paper examines the “4+2” teacher preparation model at Nukus State Pedagogical Institute, which combines academic coursework with weekly school-based internships. Focusing on English language teacher trainees, the study highlights how students apply theoretical knowledge in real classrooms, enhancing their pedagogical skills and professional identity. Student feedback suggests that the model strengthens motivation, creativity, and practical teaching competence, offering a promising approach for TESOL programs aiming to better integrate theory and practice.

This study evaluates the effectiveness of the flipped classroom (FC) model in enhancing English language learning outcomes among second-year primary education majors compared to traditional classroom (TC) instruction. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research analyzed term-end results and Telegram-administered surveys assessing student perceptions, engagement, and performance. Quantitative data revealed statistically significant improvements in the FC group, with mean scores increasing from 62.00 to 68.00, while the TC group showed marginal gains (39.90 to 41.52). Effect sizes grew over time, suggesting cumulative learning benefits. The FC approach also reduced outcome variability, evidenced by lower standard deviation and coefficient of variation values. Qualitative findings highlighted enhanced speaking confidence, vocabulary retention, and comprehension, with a strong student preference for continuing the model. However, successful implementation requires targeted support, including time-management workshops and structured pre-class guidance. The results demonstrate FC’s potential as a transformative pedagogical tool in language education, though careful planning and iterative evaluation remain essential to address variability in student adaptation. This study contributes to FC literature by addressing gaps in longitudinal analysis and discipline-specific applications, offering actionable insights for educators in primary education contexts.

The convergence of pragmatics and linguistic elements is crucial in translation, because meaning is frequently influenced by context rather than by literal interpretation. This study examines how pragmatic principles—such as implicature, speech actions, and contextual inference—improve the precision and efficacy of translation between languages. The research illustrates that by examining use circumstances, such as cultural subtleties, situational environments, and speaker motivations, pragmatic awareness allows translators to more successfully close language and cultural divides. This paper emphasizes the significance of integrating pragmatic ideas into translation techniques through case studies of multilingual literature and real-world translation settings. The results indicate that a comprehensive grasp of context-specific language elements enhances translation quality and promotes cross-cultural communication. This research emphasizes the need of incorporating pragmatics into translation theory and education, providing a foundation for future investigations in this evolving discipline.

This study presents a comprehensive statistical analysis of the frequency, duration, and characteristics of dust storms in the city of Nukus from 1978 to 2023. Drawing on archival data from the Nukus Aviation Meteorological Station and supported by the Karakalpak Scientific Research Institute of Natural Sciences, the research identifies key temporal patterns, wind regimes, and seasonal variations associated with dust storm activity over the 45-year period. Results indicate a significant decline in the number of dust storm days since the 1980s, with spring months showing the highest frequency of occurrences. The analysis also highlights shifts in dominant wind directions and speeds, as well as variations in storm duration, with most storms in recent decades lasting less than an hour. A notable long-duration event occurred in May 2018, lasting up to 17 hours. These findings underscore the evolving nature of meteorological hazards in the Nukus region, their implications for public health and the environment, and the importance of continued monitoring and regional climate analysis.

This study examines the semiotic and pragmatic application of intertextual components in advertising texts, examining the ways in which these references contribute to the persuasive impact and meaning-making. Advertising, a ubiquitous form of communication, strategically employs intertextuality, the incorporation of references to other texts, to captivate consumer attention. In-depth semiotic and pragmatic analyses of selected advertisements were conducted in conjunction with corpus development, utilizing a mixed-methods approach. The advertisements in the corpus, which were gathered from a variety of sources, employed a variety of intertextual techniques. Pragmatic analysis investigated the function of intertextual components within the communicative context, considering the intended and perceived meanings, while semiotic analysis examined them as signals, examining their contribution to meaning and persuasive impact. The findings illustrated those intertextual references function as potent signifiers, utilizing pre-existing cultural knowledge to elicit specific emotions and meanings. The synergistic relationship between visual and linguistic intertextual elements was revealed through multimodal analysis. The strategic use of intertextuality to establish rapport, construct implicatures, and navigate social issues was emphasized by pragmatic analysis. The study concludes that intertextuality is a critical tool in advertising, as it enhances audience engagement, persuasion, and meaning-making. This underscores the significance of cultural knowledge and contextual comprehension in effective advertising communication.

This article is dedicated to studying the role of social media in improving English language learning among students at Karakalpak State University. A quantitative descriptive research approach was employed, and data was collected from 70 students through an online questionnaire. It focused on students’ use of social networking platforms, what platforms they use for language learning purposes and their opinion if social media can help learning. This study also tried to identify which of their skills improved due to social media and its influence on their motivation. Findings are eye-opening: while Telegram is commonly used for general purposes, YouTube is the platform where students mostly engage in English content. It also shows clear preferences for video material, especially short videos. As most students “sometimes” or “often” try to learn new English words or phrases on social networking sites and use them in real-world, the most improved English skills are listening and speaking. These results show that social media can serve as a valuable supplementary tool in language teaching or learning process by providing authentic language input.

The increasing linguistic diversity in K-12 classrooms across the United States underscores the need for effective strategies to support English Language Learners (ELLs). This paper presents a two-year leadership plan designed to enhance ELL instruction through faculty professional development in assessment, evaluation, scaffolding, and differentiation practices. The proposed plan integrates a Knowledge Management System (KMS) to track teacher progress, document English Language Learner (ELL) student achievement, and facilitate data-driven decision-making. Year 1 focuses on ELL assessment and evaluation, ensuring fair grading practices and effective progress monitoring. Year 2 emphasizes scaffolding and differentiation, equipping educators with the tools needed to provide equitable learning experiences. A Gantt chart serves as a living document, mapping out incremental training objectives, collaborative discussions, and instructional interventions aligned with academic milestones. This structured approach benefits teachers by providing meaningful, sustainable professional growth opportunities, increases administrative oversight through measurable progress tracking, and reassures parents that the school is committed to supporting ELL student success. By aligning professional development with targeted instructional strategies, this plan fosters improved student outcomes, greater teacher efficacy, and a cohesive, school-wide commitment to equitable education for ELLs.

This paper discusses the effective presentation of two-component phrasal verbs in the context of English-Karakalpak bilingual lexicography. The study highlights the diverse and structurally rich nature of two-component verbal phraseological units in the Karakalpak language. These phrasal verbs can be classified into various models, including combinations of adjectives and verbs, numerals and verbs, reflexive pronouns and verbs, adverbial verbs and verbs, as well as onomatopoeic words combined with verbs. By examining examples from the Karakalpak language, this paper provides recommendations for accurate and idiomatic translations of these phrasal verbs in bilingual dictionaries. Furthermore, the research draws comparisons between English and Karakalpak phrasal verbs, offering a detailed analysis of their syntactic and semantic structures. The findings are intended to enhance the quality of bilingual lexicographic entries and contribute to the understanding of Karakalpak phrasal verb constructions.

This article explores the integration of authentic texts and the Frayer Model to enhance lexical competence in philology students. Authentic texts—materials created for native speakers—provide rich, contextualized language exposure, fostering cultural awareness and motivation. The Frayer Model, a structured graphic organizer, promotes deep vocabulary understanding through definitions, characteristics, examples, and non-examples. Combining these tools addresses the limitations of traditional rote memorization by offering contextual learning and cognitive engagement. A case study conducted in a first-year English philology course demonstrated a 30% increase in correct word usage and improved student confidence in inferring meanings. The study underscores the effectiveness of this integrated approach in preparing students for the linguistic and cultural demands of academic and professional communication.

This article discusses the importance of STEM-related picture book read-alouds in enhancing students’ reading competence and critical thinking skills. Drawing on the NEGA project, co-led by specialists from the U.S. Department of State and Uzbekistan, the study highlights how innovative read-aloud strategies, specifically using If I Built a Car, If I built a House and If I Built a School by Chris Van Dusen, can connect storytelling with STEM literacy. By integrating the 5E instructional model—Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate—educators can create dynamic lessons that foster creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving, preparing learners for interdisciplinary challenges. The article emphasizes the practical application of read-alouds through activities such as relationship builders, classroom energizers, and content-focused conversations, designed to actively engage learners. This approach transforms passive reading into an interactive, student-centered learning process, encouraging learners to explore complex STEM concepts like design and engineering in imaginative ways. Teachers in Uzbekistan who applied these strategies reported improved comprehension, engagement, and confidence among students, highlighting the transformative potential of combining language and STEM education. The article concludes with actionable recommendations for educators to adopt these strategies, demonstrating how they cultivate lifelong learning skills, critical thinking, and deeper engagement with both texts and STEM disciplines.

Practical applications include optimizing teacher talk time, enhancing student participation, and fostering clearer, more impactful expression. By understanding these principles, educators can refine their teaching strategies and improve language learning outcomes.

Intertextuality is essential in legal interpretation, since texts get meaning not independently but by their connections with other legal and extralegal discourses. This work investigates intertextuality through a cognitive-pragmatic lens, analyzing how legal interpreters—judges, attorneys, and legislators—derive meaning by referring previous legal texts, precedents, and wider socio-cultural narratives. This research use cognitive linguistics and pragmatic theories to examine significant court rulings, revealing both implicit and explicit intertextual connections that influence judicial reasoning. The research utilizes discourse analysis and conceptual blending theory to identify patterns of intertextual referencing that affect legislative interpretation, legal debate, and doctrinal development. The findings indicate that intertextuality functions not just as a textual characteristic but also as a cognitive approach employed to maintain coherence, legitimacy, and flexibility in legal reasoning. Moreover, the study emphasizes how pragmatic elements, including context, purpose, and audience expectations, influence the retrieval and utilization of intertextual allusions. These findings enhance the comprehension of legal interpretation as a dynamic, cognitively integrated process, illustrating that intertextuality functions as both a limitation and a facilitator in the development of legal meaning. The research emphasizes the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to legal hermeneutics, incorporating cognitive and pragmatic approaches for a more refined understanding of legal texts.

This article examines the significance of the causes and effects of pragmatic issues in the translation process. The article emphasizes the necessity of considering the contextual aspects of language in translation, that is, understanding the target audience of the speech and the cultural context. Pragmatic issues generally express the interconnection between language units and culture, which directly influences the translator’s decision-making. The article examines how these issues are expressed in translation and the role they play in communication. In addition, it also discusses the ambiguities, misinterpretations, and cultural differences that may arise from incorrect pragmatic decisions in translation. As a result, the factors that need to be considered in translation from a pragmatic perspective and the importance of correctly understanding them are highlighted. The article, while analyzing the role of pragmatics in translation, provides recommendations for improving the translator’s skills and, consequently, creating high-quality translations.

This article explores the concept of word knowledge with a focus on polysemy, analyzing multiple word meanings from a linguistic perspective. Using the frameworks of Zimmerman (2009) and Schmitt (2000), it examines lexical-semantic characteristics in English and Uzbek. The study highlights how English relies on metaphorical and idiomatic extensions, whereas Uzbek employs morphological modifications to distinguish meanings. Cognitive and typological differences in polysemy processing between the two languages are also discussed. The research emphasizes the role of linguistic structure in shaping word meanings and semantic evolution. Findings contribute to a broader understanding of lexical ambiguity and its implications for linguistic theory.

Effective professional communication is essential for agricultural students to succeed in academic, professional, and industry settings. This article explores the role of Socratic seminars as an educational method for enhancing critical thinking, verbal and non-verbal communication, and engagement in agricultural education. The integration of technology in Socratic seminars is also discussed, highlighting its role in fostering interactive, inquiry-driven learning environments. Despite challenges such as institutional constraints and resource limitations, Socratic seminars offer a promising approach to improving argumentation skills, cognitive development, and stakeholder communication in agricultural education. Future research should explore adaptive strategies to optimize this method for diverse educational and professional settings.

In this study, Hofstede’s cultural dimensions was used to compare English and Karakalpak culture. The analysis demonstrates that English culture emphasizes formality and distance, while Karakalpak cultural parameters is rooted in respect and collectivist values. In fact, understanding these cultural differences enhances intercultural communication and minimizes misunderstandings.

Trauma-informed practices (TIP) and social-emotional learning (SEL) are essential frameworks for supporting students affected by trauma, ensuring that schools foster safe, nurturing, and equitable learning environments. Research indicates that approximately 25% of children in the U.S. experience at least one traumatic event by age 16, significantly impacting their emotional well-being and academic performance. This paper explores the intersection of TIP and SEL, emphasizing their role in helping educators recognize trauma responses, build trusting relationships, and cultivate resilience in students. SEL equips students with the skills to regulate emotions, develop empathy, and build strong relationships, while also empowering educators with strategies to create inclusive, supportive classrooms. Furthermore, SEL promotes systemic equity by fostering collaboration among educators, families, and communities. By integrating TIP and SEL, schools can become spaces of healing and growth, ensuring that all students—regardless of their experiences—have the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
